Why Traveling Solo Is The Best Form Of Self Love

Sometimes the idea of traveling solo can seem complicated, or scary. But what if I told you that traveling solo is single handedly the best form of self love.

First of all, what is self-love? The dictionary says, an appreciation of one’s own worth or virtue. All it is missing is one great factor, self-love is an investment in your self. Investing is prioritizing growth and development, and to get this clear you should be number one on your priority.

So what is the best form of self love? Book a flight asap because traveling solo is the absolute best form to appreciate, you. And let me tell you why.

The first time I ever decided to travel solo was when I was 18 and it was the biggest investment I had done so far. Not only did I invest my money into great experiences, but I also invested in myself.

These are the 4 different reasons why traveling solo is the perfect form of self-love:

the 4 ways

Gets you out of your comfort zone

Without even realizing, you might be living in your comfort zone. The easiest way to live I’ll say that, but at what cost. Your growth? Opportunities? Life changing experiences?

The risks you decide not to take because it feels daunting or you fear you will feel uncomfortable, you risk truly living to the potential you are made to live. When you start to become too comfortable in your everyday life, you don’t learn, you don’t grow.

To practice self love you need to allow yourself to experience new things, things that will serve meaning to your life.

For instance, traveling solo opens a new set of opportunities and takes you out of your comfort zone—literally.

Whether it’s exploring a new city, trying new food, meeting new people, are all out of our comfort zone. Get out there and out of your bubble.

Learn about yourself

How much time do you spend alone? It might be a lot less than you realize.

Solo traveling is a time dedicated for you. A time to spend listening to yourself and staying in tune with who you are. You can learn so much about yourself when you’re alone traveling the world. To love someone you need to learn about them, learn who they truly are as people. This applies to loving yourself as well.

Get to know yourself, learn who you are. Traveling solo is a guaranteed countless amount of dates. I mean how many restaurants can you take yourself out to, or spectacular views you can watch if you are traveling alone.

Take yourself on dates. Ice cream date, grab drinks date, gym date, anything you want to do date. I promise it will be your best one yet.

Disconnect

A new city will motivate you to disconnect from the world. Take a break from your phone (unless it’s for taking gorgeous photos, of course) and fully soak in your surroundings.

Disconnecting isn’t just refreshing—it’s a powerful form of self-care that clears your mind and helps you truly live in the moment.

And the truth is, traveling with someone can easily take that away. To fully disconnect, you need to go at your own rhythm—whether that means trying the best ice cream in town or exploring museums.

Solo travel strips away life’s distractions, allowing you to soak up the journey fully.

And let me just say, the first time traveling alone I was actually terrified. Flying to another country by myself sounded so intimidating.

But what helped me push past that fear, live in the moment, and fuel my self-love were these three things—things you’ll need too.

The three must-haves for solo travel:

New Perspective

You can get used to your everyday life, maybe even lose track of the beautiful things your life has to offer. It can be easy to neglect the simple, small things in your life but traveling solo can bring out a whole new way of viewing life. Something as simple as beautiful flower, a breathtaking view, rocks. The small things are interesting when you gain a new perspective when traveling solo.

After spending quality time on your own and experiencing new things, you will come back home with a brighter perspective. Opening your eyes to the little things that surround you. Whether that is being grateful for your coffee in the morning or grateful for the love you have for yourself, traveling will create new perspectives.

Just rocks with a new perspective
